NRL ROUND 3 PREVIEW AND TIPS:
COVID19, Coronavirus, shutdowns, Project Apollo, One Ref; move out of the way – THE FOOTY IS BACK! And that is the main thing!
BRONCOS VS EELS: Thursday May 28, Suncorp Stadium 7.50pm
Parra have the next six games at what is essentially their home stadium: Bankwest, although there will be no crowds (for now), this is still a good thing for the blue and gold and they look to remain unbeaten and start the season 3-0. The Broncos are missing superstar enforcers; Tevita Pangai jnr (suspension, round 6), David Fifita (knee, 6 weeks) compound that with no Jack Bird and Jordan Kahu, we like the Eels in what should be a blockbuster to start the revised season.
First Try Scorer: Waqa Blake $15
COWBOYS VS TITANS: Friday, May 29th, Queensland Country Bank Stadium 6.00pm
The Cowboys are missing Michael Morgan but we like the look of Scott Drinkwater and Esan Masters. They are both making a positive impact and will be out to impress coach Paul Green, on the other hand you have the Titans. After going down in the first 2 games, they appear to be clutching with many changes including a reshuffled backline with Tyrone Roberts at fullback, Tyrone Peachey and Dale Copley at centre, Phillip Sami on the wing, Jamal Fogarty debuting at halfback moving Ash Taylor to five-eighth to accommodate. The Cowboys look to strong!
First Try Scorer: Valentine Holmes $9
ROOSTERS VS RABBITOHS: Friday, May 29th, Bankwest Stadium, 7:50pm
Were back at Parra, with Bankwest hosting this Friday night mouth-watering clash between two clubs that dislike each other. Latrell Vs his old club the Roosters. Need we say any more? Well, err we must. The good news is Latrell will be in the no. 1 jumper, but the Bunnies do miss key players Cody Walker (suspended, 2 weeks) and James Roberts (personal reasons). The Roosters will miss Mitchell Aubusson and welcome the ever-reliable Josh Morris (Great to see the Morris brothers representing the same club, again!) We did tip them in rounds 1 and 2 but surely, we will not see the reigning premiers go down in the effectively the first 3 games of the season? We are going Chooks in a Friday night blockbuster.
First Try Scorer: James Tedesco $9
WARRIORS VS DRAGONS: Saturday, May 30th, Central Coast Stadium 3.00pm
Those poor Warriors have sacrificed a lot to line up for this clash against the Dragons after
relocating to the Central coast from Auckland due to restrictions around the ‘pandemic’. Despite a few key injuries, this Warriors outfit will be up for the challenge and ready to go against the Dragons. The men from the Gong, who are still struggling under McGregor will benefit greatly from this break as they welcome back Cam McInnes, Tariq Sims, Korbin Sims, Mikaele Ravalawa and Matthew Dufty but they have lost their past 11 away games which is a worry. Going Dragons, just!
First Try Scorer: Matthew Dufty $10
SHARKS VS TIGERS: Saturday, May 30th, Bankwest Stadium 5.30pm
Unfortunately, the news of the round is no doubt the suspension and subsequent standing down of
Bronson Xerri, strangely enough Matty Moylan still has not been named due to that niggling calf strain but we hear he could line up close to game time. Josh Dugan makes his way back into the side to replace Xerri. The Tigers have a reshuffled back line with Adam Doueihi at full back and Co-captain Moses Mbye at centre but welcome boom halfback Luke Brooks. The Tigers will also feature a new hooker in Harry Grant, though Billy Walters is named on the bench and will get plenty of game time. The Sharks are still favs and we are backing them despite the turmoil the club has been through the past few days.
First Try Scorer: Joseph Leilua $13
STORM VS RAIDERS: Saturday, May 30th, AAMI Park 7.35pm
Two of the top sides in the comp and old mates Sticky and Bellyache go head to head for a cracking
Saturday night match. The storm have relocated back to Melbourne after a short stint in lovely border town of Albury. The Raiders will miss talk of the town Johnny Bateman but did upset the storm at AAMI park twice last year, despite this Bateman is a big loss and were gong the Storm at home in tight one.
First Try Scorer: Ryan Papenhuyzen $11
PANTHERS vs KNIGHTS: Sunday, May 31st, Campbelltown Stadium 4.05pm
Two of the real dark horses this year in our eyes go head to head this Sunday, a huge clash as both teams are unbeaten in 2020. You got to feel devastated for young Nathan Cleary (suspended, round five) I mean the poor bloke got suspended due to making a dancing video with 4 or 5 young ladies, how weird? The Knights have Kalyn Ponga still injured with 9’s sensation Tex Hoy finding himself at full back, Connor Watson is named on the bench. This is tough to call but the bookies prefer Penrith and so do we in a game that could end up finishing a draw after 80 mins. Its that close to call!
Panthers 1-12 or DRAW
First Try Scorer: Edrick Lee $10
SEA EAGLES VS BULLDOGS: Sunday, May 31st, Central Coast Stadium 6.30pm
The Sea Eagles and Bulldogs will close out the round with Des Hasler taking on the club that tore up his contract for rookie 1st grade coach and ex club player Dean Pay. Bulldogs Forward Joe Stimson will miss the season due to a shoulder injury that required surgery and with Keiran Foran out due to a niggling hamstring injury that seems to never go away, we see the Sea Eagles running rampant and proving too good for the boys from Belmore. Manly will have the fit Trbojevic brothers, Dylan Walker and DCE all poised to have a big game and throw in powerhouse forward Marty Taupau, we just can’t see the men from Brookie not leaving without the two points.
First Try Scorer: Tom Trbojevic $9.50
MANLY -7.5 vs BULLDOGS @$1.90
