SATURDAY’S TIP SHEET – AUGUST 16TH
Welcome to a great day of racing around the country.

ROSEHILL:
RACE 1
8.CONVERGENT $5.00
2.KING RATEL $7 E/W
“The 8 has drawn well, so expect Hippo to be positive from the gates and have this gelding settling in the first few in today’s Midway over 1500m to kickstart the program. He possesses a sharp turn of foot, so look for him to be finishing strongly. Ready to fire now — respect.
Our E/W play is the 2, who drops back in grade and, with even luck in running, can make his presence felt. Proven on rain-affected tracks.”

RACE 2

RACE 3
4.NINJA $2.00
2.WITHOUT PEER $8 E/W
10. REFLECT $21 E/W (ROUGHIE)
“The 4 made a huge impression, winning by an astonishing 11.3 lengths at Kembla in only his second start. While there were just four runners, he did it in style, ticking the heavy ground box, and arrives in town on a high — deserving respect. The stable is in strong form.
Our E/W selection is the 2, who won well on debut at this track a month ago. With jockey Chad Schofield retaining the ride on the Maher-trained galloper, a back-to-back victory is well within reach.
For our roughie players, consider the 10. Still a maiden, he produced an impressive finish over 1200m first-up. The step up to 1400m suits, though he may benefit from even further. Worth keeping safe.”

RACE 4
8.TUILERIES $3.60
2.SACRED ROCKS $6 E/W
11.SISTER DAAE $10
–
RACE 5
5.PALLATON $2.40
7.GRAND PRARIE $7 E/W
“The 5, from the Freedman stable with T. Berry aboard, has drawn the inside and looks set to give this Listed Rosebud a serious shake. The Wootton Bassett colt resumed from a five-month spell with two successful trials, showing he has returned in top form. Poised to strike in this feature race — a big danger.”
–
RACE 6
2.TRAVOLTA $5.50
14.AMUSING $6 E/W
“The 2 is a last-start winner and looks well placed to prove hard to beat in today’s BM78 over 1900m. The Chris Waller-trained galloper impressed when attacking the line to win by 1.2 lengths at Randwick. Back on his home track, he could make it three wins from four starts this preparation — treat with respect.
Our E/W selection is the 14, the Godolphin-owned galloper now trained by Chris Waller. Having won her past two starts, she appears to handle rain-affected tracks well. With J. Mac aboard, she is a serious each-way contender.”
–
RACE 7
7.WAR ETERNAL $3.60
6.OUR GOLD HOPE $7.50 E/W
11.ANG POW $26 ROUGHIE
“A very open race, and we hope we’ve found the winner for you. The 7, from the Baker stable with Jason Collett aboard, looks ready to strike third-up today. Narrowly beaten on this track a fortnight ago, he can atone for that defeat here. Drawn perfectly and carrying just 54kg, the Pierro colt is expected to be very competitive.
Our each-way selection is the 6, resuming from a spell with two trials under her belt. She has a record of winning first-up, and the booking of T. Berry, who rode her at the trials, must be respected.
For a ROUGHIE, consider the 11. Opening at 51/1, he has attracted some market support. Second-up after a solid Randwick return, he could cause an upset if one is on the cards.”
–
RACE 8
10.CAPTAIN FURAI $4.60
1.YOSHINOBU $7 E/W
“The 10, from the Waller stable with J. Mac aboard, looks well placed to strike in today’s BM78 over 1400m. He resumed with an encouraging effort on this track a fortnight ago, beaten 1.8 lengths after tiring late. Having won second-up and showing a liking for softened ground, he is fitter now — never underestimate this trainer-jockey combination.
Our E/W selection is the 1, from the Archibald stable with promising apprentice Briath Nock aboard. Forget his last-start run and focus on his narrow victory two starts back.”
–
RACE 9
7.POLYGLOT $4.00
3.RAVENCLAW $7 E/W
“The 7, with J. Mac aboard, returns from a 176-day spell and can bounce straight into the winners’ circle today. The lightly raced Lohnro gelding has shown promise across seven starts and impressed in his lead-up trials. Having previously won over this track and distance, a big showing is expected.
Our E/W selection is the 3 from the Waller stable. Drawn well, he can make his presence felt, having resumed with a strong win on this track a fortnight ago. No reason he can’t replicate that performance — keep safe.”
–
RACE 10
12.PERFUMIST $5.00
10.BUNKER HUT $6 E/W
“The 12, from the Baker stable, resumes from a 162-day spell with two trials under her belt and looks ready to produce a big run to close the program today. An ultra-consistent mare (11:5-3) building an impressive record, she demands serious respect. The wide draw is a concern, but quality gallopers can overcome it. If she brings her best, expect her to be fighting out the finish.
Our E/W selection is the 10, looking to strike second-up. She resumed from a spell with an encouraging effort, narrowly missing the placings. Drawn perfectly, she presents a serious chance in this.”
